This week saw the release of two Hollywood films Baywatch and Wonder Woman in India. There were also Bollywood releases like Dobara See Your Evil, Dear Maya, Sweetiee Weds NRI and an animated film Hanuman Da' Damdaar.
The last few weeks have been very good for Bollywood but it is again back to normal this week as Hollywood has dominated over Bollywood once again.
Wonder Woman has got the best opening of around 20-25% in the morning shows. It is a decent start and the film will improve in the evening as the advance and word of mouth suggest. Though the screen count is lower as the film is only running in English versions. It has not been dubbed in Hindi due to unknown reasons. All the recent Hollywood films like Pirates of The Caribbean 5, Baywatch, Guardians of The Galaxy 2 etc had a dubbed release.
The other much-hyped release Baywatch had a poor start of around 12%. It marked the Hollywood debut of Priyanka Chopra but the film has few takers in India. It clearly proves that all the hype in the media was a PR work. The opening is lower than xXx which was benefited by the presence of Vin Deisel. Though a wide release would ensure that film might get the best opening day from all the new films.
All the Bollywood films were duds. Horror film Dobara See Your Evil opened with 5% occupancy and was better in single screens. Animated film Hanuman Da' Damdaar has also opened with 5% occupancy but it will improve as the film will appeal to kids. Rest of the new films are washouts on the first day.
