Twitter India has released their listing of the most influential tweets of 2016. While PM Narendra Modi’s demonetisation tweet hit a record 6.5 lakh tweets in 24 hours, it was Virat Kohli’s tweet supporting girlfriend Anushka Sharma that was declared the ‘Golden Tweet of 2016’.
The tweet from March 2016 had the cricketer ‘shaming’ haters for trolling his alleged girlfriend for his poor performance in the T20 match. He wrote,

The tweet not only created headlines but also went viral with over 39,000 retweets and over one lakh likes. According to a report, Maya Hari, Managing Director, Twitter Southeast Asia and India, said that Virat’s tweet was the ultimate winner because he stood out as a great role model for standing up for a woman and also for her safety and defence on the social platform.
