After watching Sultan trailer, you get a feeling it is not a typical masala film of Salman. However, there were some songs, romance and humor too. The run time of the film is approximately 169 minutes which is longer than Salman’s earlier films.
Now it has been revealed that Yash Raj Films have a mixture of all things this time and also relying on the content. Sultan is not Bajrangi Bhaijaan nor it is Kick. The first half is like a typical Salman’s film but it is the second half where the emphasis is only on story and here Ali Abbas Zafar’s skills will be tested. The budget of the film is relatively low as compared to Bajrangi Bhaijaan or Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The production cost is around 65-70 crores. There is not much spent on visuals and the main focus will be on the story.
So what does this mean as far box office potential is concerned? Normally fans expect larger than life actions from Salman, some fun elements, and a happy ending. The absence of action means the story should be excellent and direction also needs to be up to the mark. YRF has tried to make a film having a mixture of elements which can appeal toward classes and also masses. Despite the controversies, Sultan promotions are going in full swing. Another interesting point is makers are also marketing this film as a love story. That is going to play an important part in the film.
The low budget will help to recover costs pretty easy. In fact, if everything goes well, it is going to get a full recovery within extended 5 day weekend. Yash Raj Films and distributors are pretty much in the safe zone. But this time, expectations are too damn high from Salman and anything less than 200 cr will be considered as a huge disappointment.
Salman looks perfect as Sultan Ali Khan and seems he will give a solid performance. The story has been tried earlier in some films but still it has the potential to impress the audience. So it has all come on Ali Abbas Zafar’s shoulder. Will he be able to deliver this time?
