Salman Khan has become the highest advance tax payer from the Bollywood industry. He has beaten Hrithik Roshan who was at the top last year. Karan Johar, Kapil Sharma and Alia Bhatt are the new entries into the top 10 advance-tax payers for the financial year 2016-17, according to official data.
Salman has paid an advance tax of 44.5 crore for 2016-17, which is 39% higher as compared to last year. Salman was followed by Akshay Kumar, who paid 29.5 crore as advance tax for the year. Kapil Sharma has paid an advance tax of 23.9 crore, up 241 per cent from last year. Karan Johar has paid Rs 11.7 crore as advance tax this fiscal, compared to Rs 2 crore one year ago.
Among other actors, Hrithik Roshan has paid advance tax of Rs 25.5 crore and Ranbir Kapoor paid Rs 16.5 crore. Aamir Khan paid a higher advance tax of Rs 14.8 crore this year, up 54 per cent. Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan have paid advance tax of Rs 10.25 crore, Rs 4.33 crore and Rs 3.9 crore, respectively.
Advance tax is paid by individuals if the tax liability on estimated income is likely to exceed Rs 10,000 during the financial year.
