There has been a major change in release dates this year. After Raees, now Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut’s Rangoon has been shifted to 2017. Earlier the film was releasing on 30th September. Rangoon, directed by National Award winning filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming period drama will now release on February 24 next year.

The film has been set in the 1940s amidst the turmoil of India’s independence struggle and will feature some epic historic references.

“I am very happy with what we have achieved during the shooting of Rangoon. This film is closest to my heart and I want to make sure this is seen as my best work,” Bhardwaj said in a statement.

“Given that it’s Shahid’s birthday on 25th February, there is no better way to celebrate. Seeing the confidence and excitement in the team of ‘Rangoon’, looks like we have much to expect in early 2017,” he added.

It means that there is no release scheduled for Gandhi Jayanti holiday this year. Raees could have released on that date but since the holiday falls on Sunday so the impact will not be that great.

  1. Its a golden opportunity for Raees makers to grab that date as their release date and they should announce it soon. I don’t want to see a clash between Srk and Greek god.

They also have another option ,that is to postpone their Baar Baar dekho to Gandhi jhayanthi wknd and Release Raees on Bakrid 2016

  2. Akshay should postpone Rustom to Gandhi Jayanti weekend so that MohenjoDaro gets a highly deserved open week. Otherwise if Mohenjo gets appreciation it will crush Rustom even if Rustom get a good WOM whereas on Gandhi Jayanti open weekend it can take advantage of solo release date.

Also it will give Akshay reasonable gap gap Housefull3 of around 4 months. Whereas Hrithik returning after 2 years will be highly anticipated and Rustom would be affected badly.
Lets see whether Akshay has brains to do it.

    • You have to understand that deciding the dates are not the actor’s responsibility nor decision unless he also produces the movie. He might have a say in it, however ultimately it’s the decision of the production house/producers.

  3. You have to understand that it’s neither the actor’s responsibility nor decision in deciding the release dates unless he/she is also the producer of the movie. They might have a say in it, however the producers make the ultimate call.
