Bollywood industry has stars, superstars, megastars and then there is Salman Khan who is ruling the Bollywood like no one ever did. While some actors need solid content to give big hits but in the case of Salman’s films, only his name is enough. Most of the actors are fighting for better release dates which are resulting in too many clashes. On the other hand, Salman Khan will enjoy solo release during Eid and Christmas this year which are the best release periods.
Back in 2016, 4 four films were announced to release during Christmas 2017. It was Shahrukh Khan was first announced that his Dwarf project with Aanand L Rai will release during Christmas. It was followed by Rajkumar Hirani and Sanjay Leela Bhansali who announced their films Dutt Biopic and Padmavati respectively.
But as soon as Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai was announced to release during Christmas, everyone backed out. The team of Dutt Biopic tried their best to release it on the scheduled date. The makers released the terrific looks of Ranbir from the film and held a press conference where they claimed that the film is even better than 3 Idiots which was probably a promotional strategy.
However, none of the leading distribution house was willing to buy the film at a good price due to this clash. Fox Star Studios offered VVC a three films deal including Dutt at a handsome price, but their only condition was that it should not clash with Tiger Zinda Hai. As a last try, Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor visited Aditya Chopra a few days back to discuss the clash. But YRF made it clear that Tiger Zinda Hai will release during Christmas 2017 and they have no plans to delay the film’s release. Thus Dutt team has no choice except to postpone the film to March 2018.
It speaks volumes about the stardom of Salman Khan when even the best director in the Bollywood whose last two films on Christmas were all time grossers, cannot dare to take on him. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of those filmmakers who does not change release dates. Two of his films have clashed with Shahrukh Khan and he emerged a winner in the later clash. Yet he has to prepone the film to November.
Last year, Shahrukh Khan’s Raees was expected to clash with Salman Khan’s Sultan. But SRK has to back out from the competition despite the fact that he has won most of the clashes. Apart from SRK, Rajinikanth and Steven Spielberg has to change the release dates to avoid the impact of Sultan. Many films were postponed in Pakistan and now there are reports that Pakistani filmmakers are demanding a ban on Tubelight’s release as it will crush regional films.
The slot of Eid 2018 is still empty but no one has booked the date yet as everyone knows that it belong to Salman. It clearly proves that Salman Khan is at that stage of his career where no one would dare to clash with him as he is the one man army.
