Days after MNS asked Pakistani actors to leave India, Pakistani distributors have decided not to release MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. The film starring actor Sushant Singh Rajput as the Indian cricket captain is releasing this Friday.
According to reports, IMGC Global Entertainment, a Pakistan-based distribution company, has backed out of releasing the film in Pakistan. Its chairman was quoted as saying in the report, “Amid current tension between the two countries, we have decided not to release the film.”
Pakistan is the third highest overseas market for Bollywood and the boycott will definitely affect the box office of MS Dhoni biopic. In the aftermath of Uri attack MNS had given an ultimatum to Pakistani actors to leave India.
A petition was also filed at the Lahore High Court on September 23, which sought a ban on Indian films until the Kashmir issue is resolved. The PIL was filed by lawyer Azhar Saddique and mentioned showing Bollywood movies in Pakistan will “hurt sentiments of the people in Pakistan and Kashmir”.
