Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif are considered as the biggest female stars today. However, they have always struggled to give an initial to the films which were not exactly driven by them.
Katrina and Deepika have not featured in any of the women-centric films. 2015’s release Piku had names like Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan other than Deepika, yet it opened to 5 crore. Deepika also featured in Finding Fanny starring Arjun Kapoor which opened less than 5 cr.
Katrina Kaif’s last release Fitoor had a disastrous opening of 3 cr. The latest Baar Baar Dekho had chartbuster music and solid promos yet the initial was below average. Finding Fanny, Fitoor, BBD etc had young actors Arjun Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra paired opposite Katrina and Deepika. It clearly indicates that these actresses are only capable of giving opening when featured opposite Khans or Hrithik.
In comparison, Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom holds the record of the highest opener for women-centric films. It is followed by Kareena Kapoor’s Heroine and Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira. These three actresses have better reach among masses as compared to Kat or DP. Katrina was a bankable star however her box office pull is fading out as the age is not on her side.
In real terms of box office power, Priyanka Chopra will be the number one actress today followed by Kareena Kapoor Khan. Sonakshi Sinha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be at number 3.
