SS Rajamouli is one of the greatest filmmakers in India. He recently helmed the blockbuster Bahubali franchise which went on to break all box office records. However, he is very humble and has down to Earth persona.
He has now dared to spoke about manipulation in box office numbers which is becoming a serious issue, especially for South films. Due to the lack of proper tracking agency down South, the numbers are often exaggerated. Reportedly Rajamouli was upset over the fake box office records set by his earlier film Maghdhera. The producer All Aravind gave the much higher numbers than the actuals.
Rajamouli said, “I was righteously credited for my work in my Ram Charan starrer Magadheera. However, I had other issues with Allu Aravind that have no connection with this. I had previously told Allu Aravind that, I am not happy with fake box-office figures and also with extension of the movie’s run even after it became a successful venture. So we agreed on certain terms and conditions. But however, later on, Allu Aravind went back on his words and there was an inflation of the box-office figures and a forceful extension in the number of days that the movie was running in theatres.
To me, the number of days actually doesn’t matter and if the movie does very well init’s shelf life, it is more than enough. But due to this inflation even after we had agreed on some terms, I was not happy with Allu Aravind. I even refused to attend the 100th day function of Magadheera.
It would not be great from the fans point of view to give lower numbers. I am not saying the movie did not even do well. But even though 80 percent of the figures quoted were true, there was an inflation of up to 20 percent. This inflated number was my main concern and I thought it was ingenuine. Otherwise, there is nothing like I was not credited for my work or something.”
