Bollywood went into shock when Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn were ignored at major award functions. Though it was hoped that they will get their due at Filmfare Awards, which is the most prestigious award function in Bollywood. But surprisingly they did not even get nominations. Other than that there were many controversial winners. Lets take a look.
There is no doubt that Ranveer Singh did a fabolous job in Bajirao Mastani but honestly speaking Salman Khan richly deserve this award for Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The film was also the biggest hit of the year. Best actor critics award was given to Amitabh Bachchan for Piku but in fact he was in a supporting role. Nawazuddin Siddiqui or Irrfan Khan would have been a better option.
Kangana Ranaut won the critics award for Tanu Weds Manu Returns while Deepika won popular award for Piku. But it should be the other way around as TWMR was much more successful than Piku. It was also the first female oriented film to cross 100 crore mark. But since Kangana does not attend the award shows (and rightly so), they awarded Deepika.
You don’t need rocket science to figure out that Bajrangi Bhaijaan was the best film of 2015. It was the biggest success at the box office and also at the television premire. The film had universal appeal, positive reviews and terrific word of mouth. Yet the award was won by Bajirao Mastani. The critics award was given to Piku and films like Masaan and Talvar were ignored.
Best Supporting Actor:
Nawazuddin Siddiqui was flawless in Badlapur and richly deserved best supporting actor. Instead the award was won by Anil Kapoor for Dil Dhadakne Do.
Best Debut Male:
Sooraj Pancholi was way below the mark in Hero. The film was also low on content as the audience were laughing on the emotional sequences. Vicky Kaushal was brilliant in Masaan and even won best debut award at some other functions. Also even Kapil Sharma would have been a better option than Sooraj as his film KKPK turned out to be super hit.
Gerua was the biggest hit song of the year but Arijit Singh won best singer award for Sooraj Dooba Hain. T-Series connection may be.
These are just few examples. There were many more deserving films and performances which have been ignored by Filmfare.
It is a shame that we do not have any credible award functions here in Bollywood. It is now an open secret that awards are up for purchase. Bollywood have to wake up and take a stand against this. But will they?
