2016 have been a decent year for Bollywood. So far in the first quarter, we have witnessed three clean hits Airlift, Neerja and Kapoor and Sons. Other than that there have been some average films and some disappointments in the name of Kya Kool Hain Hum 3, Mastizaade, Wazir and Ghayal Once Again etc.
Now all eyes are now on the biggest release of this year so far Shahrukh Khan starrer Fan. It was released today in around 3600 screens. The early trends suggest that film has taken a very good opening.
The overall occupancy in the morning shows at the multiplexes was around 50% in all over India which is excellent. The opening was best in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Mysore where it has recorded upto 60% occupancy. As expected, it has a slow start in CP, CI, and Gujarat. Normally the thriller genre does not do well in these markets but the presence of Shahrukh Khan may help the film to get good initials.
Once again the film has stormed the West Bengal box office where it has taken a huge opening. The occupancy in the morning shows was recorded up to as high as 80%. The samples from the single screens are yet to be received. The film is expected to show good growth from now. Luckily the early reports are on the positive side. The opening is the best of this year beating all Bollywood films.
Fan is rocking again in the noon shows. The film has recorded overall occupancy of 60%. The single screens are also faring extremely well. At some places houseful shows are reported. More importantly, the early response seems to be on the positive side which will help it to grow further in the evening as word of mouth will spread. The advance is also huge for the evening.
Update 3:30 PM:
As early samples are coming for morning and noon shows, it looks like that Fan is all set to cross Dilwale opening day. Fan is much ahead of Dilwale at multiplexes while in single screens, the later had a lead. Evening growth will be crucial. (Read Also: Fan to challenge Dilwale opening day)
Update 4:30 PM:
Fan has a slow start in South India. Though SRK commands a huge following there but the release of Theri has affected Fan big time. Plus The Jungle Book is also having a solid run on its second Friday. In comparison Dilwale was a big success down South. This can prove to be a big difference unless Fan improves in the evening.
Fan is showing big growth in the evening at most of the places. The West Bengal is rocking big time and the occupancy in multiplexes of Kolkata is as high as 85% . The same is the case with Delhi where the word of mouth is extremely positive. As for now the film will cross Dilwale in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Kolkata and Pune. The only concern will be South India.
