Yesterday we saw the most anticipated clash of Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani. The results are quite interesting.

Dilwale collected 21 crore which was below trade expectations. On the other hand Bajirao Mastani collected 12.80 crore. The combined total of both these films is 34 crore on its first day.

Last year we witnessed another clash between Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang and Shahid Kapoor’s Haider. And the combined total was almost 34 crore. But the films had an advantage of holiday.

Let’s compare the collection of all these films.

This proves that two films can succeed in clash only if one of them is made on a controlled budget. Both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani have been made on a huge budget of 100 crore. And it will be tough for both films to turn out to be huge grossers.

This shows that Hrithik Roshan is not far away from Khans when it comes to box office opening. Bang Bang manages to collect over 27 crore despite the clash. Though there was advantage of holiday, but Dilwale was a multi starrer film. It has Varun Dhawan whose last film collected 14 crore on its opening day. And also Dilwale was directed by Rohit Shetty who has 100% box office record.

Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardar clashed with Shahrukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012 and both films did well. And now Bajirao Mastani has given a tough competition to Dilwale. It will be interesting to see if there are more clashes with Khans in coming years.
