Dear Zindagi has been released today in theaters. The film had a controlled release of around 1200 screens. The opening was good in morning shows having 40% occupancy.
However as reported earlier the film seems to be going Tamasha way. It is a niche film only for the section of elite class which means it will get limited appreciation. The pace is slow and the reviews are also mixed. Even the main idea of both films is same though Imtiaz conveyed that in a better style.
The only difference is that Tamasha was a big budget film having Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone and helmed by a popular director Imtiaz Ali. On the other hand, Dear Zindagi is more of a women-centric film. Still, it needs to collect 65 crore for recovering costs.
Tamasha ended its lifetime run at 68 crore and was declared a box office flop. Though with the passage of time, it has got a lot of appreciation for its layered storytelling.
Dear Zindagi = Tamasha. Only for limited audience. The opening and response have proved it so far.
