Aamir Khan’s Dangal has beaten Salman Khan starrer Sultan lifetime collection under two weeks. Thus it has become the highest grosser of the year.
Sultan, which was released on Eid, collected 301 crore in its lifetime. On the other hand, Dangal has crossed 300 crore mark in just 13 days. If we compare the release period then Sultan had five days extended Eid weekend which gave a big boost to the collections. But it also had only one open week as Great Grand Masti was released in the second week.
Dangal did not have any holiday advantage as Christmas and New Year fell on Sunday. But it is the best period for box office collection as schools and colleges remain closed and the film was also tested towards the family audience. It also had three open weeks.
Aamir Khan has delivered another highest grosser of the year and is also likely to become the highest grosser of all time. Since 2010, Salman Khan has missed HOGTY for just three times and interestingly he has lost it only to Aamir Khan (Dhoom 3, PK and Dangal). Though Salman did not have any release in 2013.
Sultan: 301 cr
Dangal: 303 cr + (13 days)
