The censor board is once again in the news for the wrong reasons. As per the media reports, Udta Punjab has been halted by the Censor Board of Film Certification due its expletive-laden dialogues. This means that the board has not edited or chopped off scenes, but they have stopped the release of the film altogether.
“Makers are yet to come up with a plan to tide over this issue. They don’t want any confrontation with the Censors, so they will try and sort this amicably,” says an insider. Apparently, makers have the option of appealing to a tribunal but insiders believe that makers will have “to contend with a few cuts.” Rreportedly producer Anurag Kashyap has approached the I&B ministry to clear the film.
The news has not gone well the fans of the star cast.
Udta Punjab is about the drug abuse problem in the state of Punjab and stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh. The movie is directed by Abhishek Chaubey and is produced by Balaji Telefilms and Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Productions. The movie is set to release on June 17.
