Salman Khan is all set for his next Diwali release Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Diwali is probably the biggest festival celebrated in India. It is also considered a very good release period for movies.
But some of the last Diwali releases has not done well as it was expected. In fact in last 5 years, there is not a single Diwali release which was the highest grosser of that year.
Let’s take a look at the previous Diwali releases and their collection.
Happy New Year
Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Son Of Sardar
By taking a look at the above table, we can see that all the films have taken superb opening. But later on could not sustain that well. Obviously Krrish 3 is the exception, but its figures are highly controversial.
Except Golmaal 3, none of the film had solid content. In fact some of the films had extremely negative word of mouth like Happy New Year, Ra One, Action Replay etc. So it is yet to be seen how a strong content film will do at the box office on Diwali.
Last highest grosser of the year, released on Diwali, was Om Shanti Om way back in 2008. Diwali is mainly considered as a Shahrukh Khan’s lucky date. But in 2013, he released Chennai Express on Eid and got his highest grosser ever.
Now in 2015, Salman Khan is coming on Diwali with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Can he change the trend and give the highest grosser of the year? Only time will tell.
