Cricket and Films are two things that bring the populace of India and Pakistan together. As the language of both countries is same, Bollywood films are a big source of entertainment for Pakistanis.
Salman Khan starrer Sultan is releasing on this Eid. A couple of big Pakistani films Blind Love and Sawaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka were also releasing on the same date. However Anticipating a box office washout in the face of Sultan ahead of Eidul Fitr, makers of both films have pulled the plug on their respective releases.
Eid season is the most celebrated festival in Pakistan as there are four holidays. So the local producers were expecting to release their films during the festive period. However, associations of film distributors and producers have announced that no local film will hit screens on the festival.
Blind Love co-producer and Pakistan Film Distributors Association Chairperson Ejaz Kamran said the film will now be released on July 29. “Eid is a festival where we can prove to audiences that we can produce good films. It is painful that we were forced to postpone the release date,” said Kamran.
Last year on Eid, Bajrangi Bhaijaan was a huge hit in Pakistan and ran in cinemas to packed houses for many days.
Sultan is also getting a solo release in India as superstars like Shahrukh Khan, Rajinikanth, Diljit Dosanjh and Steven Spielberg have to readjust the release date of their films to avoid the clash with Sultan.
