Hollywood domination over Bollywood was started this year. Even smaller films from Hollywood opened much better than local releases. Finally, the dull phase was over with the release of Sultan which shattered all kind of records.
However, it seems that Sultan was just a one off film and the trend is still the same. Today Madaari along with few other Bollywood releases and South Indian Kabali was released. Interestingly the dubbed version of the film has opened much better than all combined Bollywood films. Madaari opened to a poor occupancy of less than 10% and other new releases were completely washout. In comparison, Kabali dubbed version has a decent occupancy of 15%. As per the trends, Kabali will collect better than Madaari on its first day.
Earlier it was Punjabi releases Sardaar Ji 2 which had a historic opening. It beat all Bollywood releases of the year including Fan and Housefull 3 in East Punjab. Even Diljit’s Bollywood debut release Udta Punjab opened better in North India due to his star power.
Sultan has emerged a blockbuster hit but from now on things are not looking great. Except Dangal, trade is not putting their money on any of the other films. Even the much-awaited releases have average to poor promos.
