Dangal has stormed the box office since it’s release. The film which collected 197 crore in the first week, is set to smash all time record for the second weekend and week.
Now the biggest question is that will Dangal break PK record? Looking at the trend, it looks very much possible. In fact, it can even beat that record by a distance. Let’s take a look at the possibilities.
Let’s assume that Dangal will collect 105 crore in the second week. It will take the total collection to over 300 crore. Aamir Khan’s last Christmas release PK collected 41 crore in the third week without an extra holiday. Dangal is carrying better word of mouth and is also tax free in many states. Still, we can assume that it will collect 45 crore and total collection after three weeks will be close to 350 crore and will surpass PK.
1st Week: 197
2nd Week: 105 (expected)
3rd Week: 45 (expected)
Total: 347 cr
Now coming to the second part about 400 crore club, it looks tough but still not out of reach. The collections in the third week can be higher in an ideal case. Then in the 4th week the film will face competition from Vin Diesel starrer xXx and Dharma Production’s OK Jaanu.
But none will offer any kind of competition. The rom-coms in last year fared very bad at the box office as there was only one hit Ki and Ka. Plus both Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor are coming after giving a disaster (Fitoor and Rock on 2). The other film xXx looks like a b-grade Hollywood film and Deepika’s presence will not help it much as even her Bollywood films tend to take slow opening like Piku or Finding Fanny.
Thus Dangal will get two more weeks and will need 50 crore in these two weeks to cross 400 crore. It will be very tough as PK only collected 20 crore in the same time span. Though it cannot be ruled out completely as the film has repeat value which will help it to sustain in 4th and 5th week unless the new releases turned out to be extraordinary.
Do tell us if you think that Dangal will beat PK record or cross 400 crore?
